This content-packed, resource-rich, interactive workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn how to support transgender, non-binary, and gender-expansive employees in the workplace, while also keeping your business running smoothly. We will explore the day-to-day needs of transgender employees, and look at how employers and employees can work together to make workplaces safe and welcoming for everyone.
The session is designed for managers and executives at all levels, human resources and diversity/inclusion professionals, union leaders, labor and employment attorneys, in-house counsel, and anyone interested in making that New York workplaces are respectful, inclusive and equitable for transgender employees.
Topics will include:
- New vocabulary for a new paradigm
- Hiring and retention practices
- Employees who transition on the job
- Access to restrooms and other sex-segregated spaces
- Non-discrimination, anti-harassment, and privacy policies
- Trans-inclusive insurance policies
- Pipelines for leadership
- Overview of employers’ state and federal legal obligations to all employees, including transgender, non-binary and gender-expansive

Facilitator: Milo Primeaux, Esq. (he/him)
Milo is a queer transgender civil rights attorney. In addition to running a solo legal practice with a focus on LGBTQ+ discrimination, Milo is the founder and CEO of Just Roots Consulting, LLC, which works to raise the bar of excellence for organizations, institutions, and individuals nationwide. Milo brings 15+ years of professional experience educating people about their legal rights, developing new leadership, and fostering critical awareness rooted in anti-oppression principles and cultural humility.
Previously, Milo led the LGBT Rights Project at Empire Justice Center in Rochester, NY, and served as an Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellow at Whitman-Walker Health in Washington, DC. He has provided direct legal services to hundreds of low-income LGBTQ+ people, focusing especially on transgender name changes and LGBTQ-based discrimination in employment, education, healthcare, and places of public accommodation. He’s trained well over 3,000 attorneys and judges to respectfully and competently serve LGBTQ+ people and has equipped thousands of LGBTQ+ people nationwide to exercise their legal rights under state and federal law. He works closely with state administrative agencies, legislators, and policymakers to ensure that the law works for all LGBTQ+ New Yorkers.
Milo currently serves by appointment on the Richard C. Failla LGBTQ Judicial Commission of the New York Courts and the New York State Bar Associations LGBT Committee, and chairs the Monroe County Bar Association’s LGBT Committee in Rochester. He is a graduate of the Ohio State University and the City University of New York (CUNY) School of Law.
